A few years ago, once I started to accumulate a reasonable number of pictures of accepetable quality and interest, I took on the challenge of having a significant exhibition.
I wasn't aware of where this would take me. From the very start I wanted it to be a collaboration with other established photographers. I am delighted that the idea appealed to two outstanding Northumberland photographers.
One is Allan Potts whose contribution to the exhibition was immense adding an extra dimension. Allan’s modesty conceals a wildlife photographer of world quality and recognised as such with his list of awards. He has photographed events in the animal kingdom that almost everyone else never even sees, let alone photograph. Allan achieves the near impossible whilst maintaining technical perfection and an eye for good composition creating stunning pictures. Allan is a farmer from Backworth.
Then there is Simon Fraser from Bellingham who is an extremely accomplished photographer across a diverse range of photographic disciplines and skills. His library contains pictures from many of the remotest parts of the world. Simon has a remarkable ability to see a picture where many, including myself, can’t. He can create a beautiful picture out of a confusion of detail, for example finding just the right leaves to focus on in a woodland of millions. Looking at his atmospheric landscapes you can almost hear the wind and feel the sun – a remarkable quality.
Allan and Simon unfortunately had to put up with me as the third member. We call ourselves “sceNE”.
We approached the Northumberland National Park to see if they would like us to produce an exhibition of the National Park as seen through a number of photographers’ cameras with different styles and different perceptions of the National Park. The offer was received enthusiastically. Next we approached the Biscuit Factory Gallery in Stoddart Street, Newcastle to see if they would like to host the exhibition. Again, the idea was greeted with immediate enthusiasm.
For those who have not been to the Biscuit Factory it is fantastic! It is the perfect environment to appreciate art of all kinds. The atmosphere is serene and the wood and brick interior gives a relaxing warmth with a light that brings the exhibits to life. There is also a very pleasant Coffee Shop. It is a must to visit. It also happens to be probably the most successful commercial Art Gallery in Europe
Not only was the exhibition successful, the whole process of working with Simon, Allan, the National Park and Biscuit Factory with their enthusiasm and commitment was an absolute delight.
The exhibition was so successful that our second exhibition at the Biscuit Factory opens on 11th June until 28th August 2011 and is dedicated to the beauty of the North East of England.
We have added to the membership of sceNE with the inclusion of the stunning urban and coastal photography of Andrew Whitaker with whom I share the Northern Horizons website and a huge Inkjet Printer.
If you come to the Biscuit Factory you will not be disappointed. We might see you there.
The picture in this blog is our best selling image. Many people think it is "Narnia". I am reluctant to disappoint people - it is, in fact, the Abbey Grounds in Hexham.

Keep looking at our blog for details of our next exhibition at the Biscuit Factory in the winter.
