Hexham is a delightful small market town on the banks of the River Tyne. It has a splendid Abbey founded in 674AD of which the crypt and apse remain. Most of the church dates from 1170-1250 with some rebuilding in the last 150 years. It was built of stone removed from Hadrian's Wall.
