"Stephenson's Cottage Wylam, Northumberland" by Roger Clegg
Catalogue number: HW0600
The first self propelled steam locomotive is attributed to Richard Trevithick at the Pen-y-Darren ironworks. As with many "firsts" there were significant problems to overcome. George Stephenson developed the concept to create the first viable railway and became known as the "Father of the Railways". A remarkable achievement, particularly as he had no formal education.
